The University of Gambia
The University of Gambia
The University of The Gambia was established in 1998 in Kotu-Kanifing, a suburb of Sere Kunda. In March 1999, the National Assembly of The Gambia passed an act that officially authorized the university to begin academic activities. That same year, 300 students were enrolled. By 2019, the university had grown to nearly 6,000 students and employed around 400 staff members. The University of The Gambia operates across five campuses, and the Gambian government has plans to establish a new campus in Faraba Banta. The university comprises multiple faculties, including Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Education, Journalism and Digital Media, Business and Public Administration, Information and Communication Technology, Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, and Law. It offers dozens of specialized undergraduate programs as well as several master’s degree programs.
