UNESCO Santiago Visited UNESCO-ICHEI
On September 12th, 2024, Ms. Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director of UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO Santiago) , visited the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI). Ms. BI Xiaohan, Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, Mr. JIAO Yanwen, Chief of the Global Partnership and Programme Office, and Mr. XU Mingshun, Chief a.i. of the Administrative Affairs Office, discussed potential collaborations with Ms. Esther Kuisch Laroche. Ms. BAO Angela, Manager of Public Affairs Communication Dept. LAC, Huawei Technologies, also participated in the meeting.

UNESCO-ICHEI introduced its mission and functions, as well as its key projects, especially its establishment of IIOE national centres, IIOE Micro-Certification Project for Higher Education Workforce Digital Competency Building (IIOE Micro-Certification Project) and the IIOE '1+X' GenAI Course Series, and expressed interest in collaborating with UNESCO Santiago to facilitate digital transformation for higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms. Esther Kuisch Laroche introduced UNESCO Santiago's goals and ongoing projects, emphasized UNESCO Santiago's key role in teachers' training, AI ethics, and digital transformation of education in Latin America and the Caribbean, and expressed UNESCO Santiago's hope to strengthen collaboration with UNESCO-ICHEI to promote the implementation of projects in the region.
UNESCO-ICHEI Discussed Future Collaborations with the Delegation
UNESCO-ICHEI and UNESCO Santiago discussed in depth about specific areas for collaboration, and reached an initial consensus on cooperation in areas such as supporting more universities to join the IIOE network, exploring opportunities to establish IIOE national centres, facilitating digital capacity building of higher education workforce through IIOE Micro-Certification Project and IIOE '1+X' GenAI Course Series, and initiating joint research projects and policy dialogues in Latin America and the Caribbean. After the meeting, the delegation visited the IIOE AI Lab.
