Introduction of Africa Projects
Africa programme covers North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. In the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, the UNESCO 2030 Education Goals and the priority development areas of the UNESCO “Africa and Gender Equality” , the Africa Programme Office has established cooperation projects in the field of higher education in developing countries in Africa, combined with the development experience of China’s higher education popularization, through ICT to improve the quality of education and promote education innovation, achieve educational equity, and provide platform for lifelong learners.
Africa Programme Office is currently cooperating with seven African countries, including Ethiopia, Egypt, Djibouti, Uganda, Namibia, the Gambia, and South Africa (under plan). In each country, a high-level university has established a three-party partnership with Southern University of Science and Technology and UNESCO-ICHEI.
In addition, Africa Programme Office actively assists the UNESCO Shenzhen Funds-in-Trust Project in strengthening quality assurance and improving certification mechanisms in 10 African countries, including Niger, Togo, Ivory Coast, Mali, Zambia, Egypt, Gambia, Malawi, Namibia and Senegal. The office has close cooperation with UNESCO Headquarters and field offices in the African region, the Ministry of Education of the member states, the National Commission for UNESCO, higher education institutions, and think tanks to jointly promote the application of ICT in higher education in the Africa to achieve inclusive, equal and high quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all citizens.
Africa Programme Office actively expands strategic partnerships with companies, providing multilateral international channels for Chinese companies to go abroad, and has established partnership with companies such as Huawei, Tencent, Weidong Cloud Education Company, Shenzhen Metro, and Chuangxian Group, actively providing intellectual support for Chinese companies in cultivating local talents. In collaboration with Weidong Cloud Education Company, Africa Programme Office is establishing Smart Classroom for partner universities in Egypt, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, to improve the hardware and software facilities, as well as the information management of universities to cultivate teachers and students with ICT literacy. The office aims to promote innovative industrial-academic partnership for local universities. The second phase of the Smart Classroom project will expand to Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Science and Technology in Namibia, Gambia University and a top university in South Africa.
