ICHEI and Weidong signed Phase II Smart Classroom Agreement

On December 13, 2020, International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) and Weidong Cloud Education Group (Weidong) signed the Second Phase of Smart Classroom Cooperation Agreement. The two sides will jointly deploy another 6 Weidong Smart Classroom in Asian and African countries to promote the high-quality development of higher education. Li Ming, Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, and Wang Duanrui, Chairman of Weidong, attended the ceremony and signed the agreement.

According to the agreement, UNESCO-ICHEI will cooperate with its strategic partner Weidong to build a new batch of Weidong Smart Classroom in following 6 countries: Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco, Senegal, so as to promote the application of ICT in higher education in developing countries and less developed countries in Asia and Africa, and jointly promote the realization of Education 2030 and SDG4—— “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
Before the signing ceremony, the two sides reported the outcomes of the first phase of Weidong Smart Classroom project, and introduced the second phase proposal.

In his speech, Li Ming said that UNESCO-ICHEI has always actively implemented the mission of UNESCO, and supported Asian and African developing countries to improve the quality of higher education through projects such as the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) and Weidong Smart Classroom. UNESCO-ICHEI will continue to strengthen cooperation with Weidong in higher education, vocational education and other fields, promote the construction of IIOE, and realize the development strategy of ” Based in Asia Pacific, Focusing on Africa, Embracing a Global Prospect “.

Wang Duanrui said that since the establishment of cooperation between Weidong and UNESCO-ICHEI in 2017, the two sides had worked closely on Weidong Smart Classroom and IIOE, and achieved fruitful outcomes. Weidong is the first partner enterprise to implement overseas projects with UNESCO-ICHEI. The first phase of Weidong Smart Classroom project has been deployed in Pakistan, Egypt, Djibouti, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and has been fully utilized during the pandemic period.

Weidong Smart Classroom is a digital teaching environment integrated a variety of digital teaching tools, classroom interactive software and learning management system. It can complement the traditional teaching mode and enhance teaching interaction and remote teaching ability. The international version of WeLMS which was independently developed by Weidong, can support online teaching and live broadcasting functions, realize remote learning as well as product and manage digital course resources.
