Seminar on Data Management and Quality Assurance of Higher Education in the GBA Successfully HeldMay 29, 2019
On May 26, 2019, the Seminar on Data Management and Quality Assurance of Higher Education in the Greater Bay Area was successfully held in Southern University of Science and Technology (hereinafter as SUSTech). During the Seminar, experts from government departments of education, schools of education in universities, higher education institutions, and ICT enterprises from the cities in the Greater Bay Area (the GBA) put forward suggestions and exchanged ideas on higher education data and quantitative evaluation research and application. They also discussed how to use higher education evaluation to bring benefits to the Bay Area.
The GBA Data Center of Higher Education (hereinafter as the GBA DCHE), jointly set up by International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) and Center for Higher Education Research of Southern University Science and Technology (CHER, SUSTech) was officially launched in the Seminar. The center is the first regional education research institution in the world focusing on “the Bay Area”, and is committed to becoming an influential Chinese high-end educational think tank around the globe.
Mr. XU Jianling, Deputy Director of Shenzhen Education Bureau, Prof. LI Fengliang, Vice-Chairperson of University Council of SUSTech, Prof. CHEN Yuehong, Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences of SUSTech, and Prof. LI Ming, Director of UNESCO-ICHEI and CHER, expressed their congratulations on the founding of the center.
The experts gave speeches and exchanged ideas deeply on data management and higher education in the seminar. Mr. TANG Zhenmin, Chairperson of Guangdong Academy of Education made a keynote report on Data Management, Development and Quality Assurance in the GBA: Principles, Impacts and Focus. He mentioned that it is necessary to vigorously promote the ICT, internationalization and modernization of higher education in the GBA, and fully enhance the role of chasing, competing and even surpassing the world famous Bay Area.
Prof. YANG Zongkai, President of Xidian University then delivered a speech themed Data-driven Personalized Learning. He pointed out that data is the new driving force of education innovation. Now we are embracing the golden era of systematically using science and technology to boost education reform.
Ms. LI Yan, Director of the Information Office of Higher Education Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education, introduced the founding and function of National Data Platform for Quality Monitoring of Higher Education. She also put forward some prospects for the future development of the data platform.
Prof. WANG Boqing and Prof. HAN Wei, Co-Directors of the GBA Data Center of Higher Education then gave the reports. In his report OBE-Oriented Quality Monitoring of Higher Education, Prof. WANG emphasized that the center will not only publish the GBA year book of higher education in the future, but also study the advanced projects of regional education development, with the aim of building an academic platform for the research of higher education management and quality assurance.
Finally, Prof. HAN Wei published the pre-outcomes of the Comparative Analysis of Higher Education in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay Areas. She pointed out that the center will carry forward comparative study of the higher education in the three domestic bay areas based on The Development Plan for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and publish influential reports regularly. The center will also deepen the research on the interaction between higher education and urban development in other Bay Areas, find the answers of how to build a world-class university, how to bring benefits the Bay Area, and obtain a model suitable for the Bay Area, which will act as a professional think tank for accelerating the development of GBA.
Most importantly, the seminar announced the Initiative of GBA Higher Education Joint Unites, which follows the principle of professional, front-tier, and open research of education data. And it is striving for improving the quality of higher education, leading the cluster development of universities in the region, and helping create a world-class Bay Area and world-class city group.
