To strengthen the existing partnership and identify more areas of mutual interest, Mr. Hassan Shehzad, Associate Programme Specialist at ICHEI, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Libing Wang, Chief of Educational Innovation and Skills Development (EISD) section at UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education in Bangkok, Thailand, on 4-March-2019.
During a very encouraging discussion in connection with on-going joint projects of UNESCO Bangkok and ICHEI, Dr. Libing Wang expressed his sincere appreciations to the Shenzhen Municipal Government and ICHEI for supporting UNESCO’s regional projects and activities in higher education, particularly in ICT-driven innovations, such as MOOCs and blended learning in the past years which have contributed to the access, quality and equity of higher education in the region. “With UNESCO striving to build peace and bridge the capacity and knowledge gaps in higher education through policy advice, technical assistance and information sharing, there are great potentials for UNESCO Bangkok and ICHEI to work together in their respective capacities to promote the SDG4 targets, especially the targets that are related to tertiary and higher education, in the years to come” he also mentioned.
Being one of the esteemed associates to accomplish UNESCO’s objectives since its inception in 2016 in Shenzhen, ICHEI has been closely cooperating to promote higher education innovations through the use of technologies in Asia-Pacific and African regions. Taking stocks of experience accumulated from blended learning project in Asia, Shenzhen Fund-in-Trust (SFIT) is one of the notable examples of determination and zeal which Shenzhen is committed. Based on UNESCO’s guidance and partnership with public-private entities for educational prosperity in the developing countries, ICHEI has been collaborating with key stakeholders of member states to further promote Higher Education innovation at institutional level and Higher Education governance at national level.
Regarding the upcoming joint project with UNESCO Bangkok Office, it was conversed wherein the elaborated studies and comprehensive research on applying latest technologies in higher education area in Asia-Pacific region will be brought out to showcase the progress of advancements in the member states and the project countries. Since online education has become an increasingly recognized option, incorporating Open and Distance Learning (ODL) , Open Educational Resources (OER) and Artificial Intelligence are influencing recent innovations in higher education, which paves the way for new approaches and areas of cooperation between UNESCO and ICHEI.
