2018 Seminar on ICT Application in Higher Education for Asian and European Countries ClosedJuly 11, 2018
On July 8th 2018, the Foreign Aid Training Program of the Ministry of Commerce of the Republic of China – “2018 Seminar on ICT Application in Higher Education for Asian and European Countries” was closed successfully at the International Meeting Hall of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).
Mr. FAN Xiangdong, Vice President of Shenzhen Association for Promoting International Economic & Technological Cooperation (APIETC), Prof. LI Fengliang, Vice-Chairperson of University Council of SUSTech, and Prof. LI Ming, Director of Center for Higher Education Research (CHER) of SUSTech attended the closing ceremony and delivered speeches. In total, 37 participants from 9 Asian and European countries participated in the event, including Cambodia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Serbia, Slovakia and Uzbekistan.
On behalf of the APIETC, Mr. FAN Xiangdong gave a speech in which he congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the seminar and expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support provided by SUSTech as well as the well-designed courses and activities. He concluded by saying that he hoped the seminar would help to promote the use of ICT in higher education in Asia and Europe, and also that these events would help to develop stronger ties between these countries and China.
Prof. LI Fengliang took to the stage to congratulate the participants on their completion of the seminar and thanked the APIETC for their support. He pointed out that the participants were in a completely new and foreign cultural environment here at SUSTech, and hoped that they would be able to bring the culture of innovation and the spirit of Shenzhen to their countries. He also said he was looking forward to future cooperation with them in the field of higher education.
Prof. LI Ming highlighted the purposes and expectations for hosting such a seminar in his speech. He said he was looking forward to the establishment of more cooperation and exchanges between universities and institutions in Asia and Europe and hoped that the experiences gained the seminar would be taken back there and put to good use.
The participants were then invited on stage to share their thoughts on the seminar. They expressed their gratitude to the organizers and spoke highly of the curriculum that they had. They went on to say that the seminar had been a valuable exchange for their countries with China in the field of information technology in higher education.
The seminar took place over 21 days and was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China. It was organized by the APIETC and co-organized by CHER. The participants came from 9 different countries from Asia and Europe, including: Cambodia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Serbia, Slovakia and Uzbekistan. The seminar has fully showcased the theoretical and technical achievements of China’s information and communication technology in the field of higher education, especially in the field of online education. It was hoped that this seminar would help participants to understand and draw lessons from China’s experience and strength in the field of ICT in higher education which could then be implemented in their countries. Meanwhile, this seminar has provided its participants with hands-on opportunities to film and produce MOOCs at the newly installed MOOC Center at SUSTech. In the future, these will serve as a part of the resources for showcasing the ICT development in higher education in countries along the Belt and Road.
