SUSTech & ICHEI Attended Asia-Pacific GCED Network Meeting

On May 3-4,2018, invited by UNESCO Bangkok Office, UNESCO Jakarta Office, and APCIEU, Prof.Dr. LI Fengliang, Vice-chairperson of SUSTech, together with Ms. LI Fan, Chief of the Asia-Pacific Programme Office of ICHEI, attended “2018 Asia-Pacific Regional Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Network Meeting” in Jakarta, Indonesia. This year, the event is under the theme of “Solidifying regional action for GCED”, that over 40 representatives showed their attendance. Prof. Dr. LI Fengliang gave a presentation on topic of “The Role of GCED in Higher Education Innovation: The practice of SUSTech on promoting GCED as a world-class young university” as keynote speaker, which raised attention by the seminar participants.

The concept of global citizenship has widespread and far-reaching impact on the world. GCED has been adopted in global development framework as SDG4.7. GCED is closely referred to the higher education reform – Prof. Dr. LI Fengliang demonstrated the balance between being a global citizen and qualified national by giving example of SUSTech talent cultivation. He said ‘Caring of homeland, global vision, comprehensive literacy and innovation capability is the key components fostering university graduates become global citizens and leaders of the world with Chinese spirit. ‘ It raised a lively discussion between Prof.Dr. Li and other participants regarding to how universities should define and implement GCED.
